ODH News Release: Guidance Provided for K-12 Schools in Ohio
COLUMBUS – The Ohio Department of Health released updated recommendations for K-12 schools on Tuesday, July 27, 2021. The guidance strongly recommends COVID-19 vaccinations for staff and eligible students; consistent mask-wearing for individuals who are not yet fully vaccinated; and layering prevention measures that include good ventilation, regular cleaning, handwashing, covering coughs and sneezes, and staying home when sick. The Ohio Department of Health also strongly recommends those who are not fully vaccinated to consistently wear masks, which have proven a very effective tool for reducing the spread of the virus.
Greene County Public Health is following the guidance provided by the Ohio Department of Health, and has no authority to mandate mask use in schools. It is up to each district to determine the best course of action for district administration, faculty and students. GCPH officials will be meeting with all Greene County superintendents the week of August 2 to discuss the upcoming school year.
